Hollow Plastic Ball Covers for Wastewater Ponds & Lagoons
The challenge
- Odor and H₂S complaints from neighbors and regulators
- VOC emissions and the compliance pressure they create
- Algae and cyanobacteria blooms in open basins
- Costly or short-lived mechanical and membrane covers
How Armor Ball® helps
A poured-on 91% layer of Armor Ball® acts as a physical barrier over the liquid surface, suppressing the odor, H₂S, and VOC release that drives nuisance complaints and compliance pressure. At the same time, the opaque HDPE blocks the sunlight that feeds algae and cyanobacteria — so one cover controls two problems at once.
The balls are inert across pH 2–13 and pour directly onto the existing surface with no draining, anchoring, or liner penetration, so the basin stays in service during install. They move aside for aerators and equipment, then re-cover automatically, and need no maintenance over a 25+ year design life.
What to look for when covering a wastewater treatment surface
- Chemical compatibility: Wastewater chemistry varies; request material certifications and an SDS to confirm Armor Ball® HDPE suits your specific liquid across its pH range.
- Equipment access: Where aerators, mixers, or decanters need access, the free-floating balls push aside and re-cover — no panels to cut or re-fit.
- Coverage quantity: Plan on about 10 balls per ft² (108/m²); use the coverage calculator to size your basin before requesting a quote.

FAQ
Wastewater Treatment — questions answered
Will a floating ball cover reduce odor on a wastewater lagoon?
Yes. A dense 91% Armor Ball® layer forms a physical barrier over the liquid surface that suppresses odor, H₂S, and VOC emissions rising off a wastewater lagoon, easing nuisance complaints and compliance pressure.
Are the balls compatible with wastewater chemistry?
Armor Ball® is molded from UV-stabilized HDPE that is inert to most industrial liquids across pH 2–13, making it well suited to wastewater treatment ponds and lagoons. Request material certs and SDS to confirm your specific chemistry.
Can I install a ball cover without taking the basin offline?
Yes. Armor Ball® pours directly onto the existing liquid surface with no draining, anchoring, or liner penetration, so the basin stays in service during install.
